Women Empowerment
Statistics and indicators reveal that women in this area work either on daily wages or as unorganised labour in subsistence agriculture, industries or households. Due to gender inequality, women’s work is not recognised to be of any economic value. Their participation in overall economic and political decision making remains extremely low and their contribution to the economy is seldom recognised or measured in the national accounting system.
Women, who constitute over 50 per cent of the workforce of the country and comprise more than half the total population, have no safeguards to protect their interests. They continue to remain vulnerable due to a variety of reasons such as poverty, low educational accomplishment, land fragmentation, environmental degradation, traditional culture, superstition and low infrastructure development. Among the poor, women are further marginalised due to unequal access to information, technology, employment and infrastructure development.
The scheme of self employment in ready made garments production and other Training programs are intended to provide a source of work and livelihood to the needy women.
